Licensing
AutoCAD is sold on a perpetual, subscription, or pay-per-use basis. Basic users have a perpetual license, which grants them access to a version of AutoCAD that is valid for life. The user may purchase upgrades to the software for additional use and functionality.
In some cases, upgrades to the software can be added to a valid perpetual license by entering the upgrade code at the time of installation. If the upgrade is added to the basic license, it must be purchased with the basic license; if it is added to a perpetual license, it can be purchased separately. A bundle containing AutoCAD and its related software is called the AutoCAD license.
