History

AutoCAD: A Brief History

Founded in 1982, Autodesk is one of the leading computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application providers. In 1983, AutoCAD debuted as the first commercial, dedicated CAD program for PC-based desktop microcomputers.

In 1986, Autodesk developed a CAD application for the Apple Macintosh platform. From the early 1980s through the early 1990s, the Apple Macintosh was one of the most popular platforms on the market. Most engineers and designers used the Apple Macintosh platform because of its sophisticated graphical user interface, advanced graphics capabilities, and ease of use. AutoCAD quickly became the most popular and most frequently used CAD application.

In 1994, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD R14. AutoCAD R14 was designed to run on legacy minicomputers (x86-based platforms) to allow compatibility with older applications, graphics cards, and other peripheral hardware. Today, Autodesk continues to support AutoCAD R14, and also continues to support native AutoCAD on the Mac platform as well as other operating systems, including Windows and Linux.

In the early 1990s, demand for CAD software began to drop. Some software developers began designing new CAD applications specifically for the Macintosh platform. Some of these companies included FrontRange, NAG, and Macromedia.

In 1999, Autodesk bought Macromedia. In 2003, Autodesk purchased Paul Davis (the parent company of AutoDesk), which included Paul Davis’ AutoCAD product line.

As of 2014, there are more than 2 million Autodesk designers and engineers using Autodesk products.

Today, there are more than 2 million Autodesk users, many of whom work for some of the world’s leading companies. Most of Autodesk’s clients use AutoCAD for products that include:

After what was one of the coldest winters in memory, I was certainly looking forward to the arrival of Spring! There was no denying that Spring was coming, in fact the first signs of the return of warmer weather began a little over two weeks ago. The weather reports (which I have come to take with a pinch of salt) indicated that the first day of Spring was around the corner, but how could this be possible?

I have to admit, that sometimes I can be a ‘winter person’; I like to wear my spring, summer and autumn clothes throughout the year. This year though, with the cold weather still reigning, I was happy to see the first signs of Spring beginning to appear. The trees were putting on a spring show, with their new growth, buds and leaves.

Spring time has always been my favourite time of year. I am never quite sure what it is about Spring that has such a hold over me, perhaps it is the renewed energy that all living things seem to have at this time of the year.

Winter may be a time of rest, but Spring is a time of renewal and excitement. In the natural world, the coming of Spring is an exciting and celebratory time, the season when the first flowers begin to bloom, the trees begin to put on their new growth and the birds begin to moult.

In my mind, Spring was and always will be a time of renewal for me. It is a time for new beginnings, a time to get a fresh perspective on life. It’s

Florida State University students are taking the first steps to fight the university’s reported use of Amazon-owned Mechanical Turk to perform online experiments, according to a Wednesday lawsuit.

The university’s use of the technology to do research with its students has been a point of contention in the past. Students from across the country criticized the FSU’s use of the program in November, and the allegations were confirmed by the university’s contract with the San Francisco-based company, which let it purchase Experiments in Bioinformatics (EBI) software in November 2018.

A group of FSU students will bring a lawsuit against the university this fall, according to the lawsuit, filed in a Florida federal court. The students argue the university isn’t following proper ethics guidelines, and they are seeking a refund of the fees they paid for the use of EBI. They are also asking that the university avoid using the program in the future.

A Google search for the names of the students, FSU senior Noah Schabacz and University of Maryland senior Elizabeth Mather, show the lawsuit is the first such action since the students signed up for a program with EBI.

While the lawsuit refers to it as the Experiments in Bioinformatics program, the description in the university’s website refers to it as Experiments in Bioinformatics and Machine Learning.
