AutoCAD goes beyond the conventional two-dimensional drafting process to provide other user interface options, including modeling, simulation, and painting. The graphical user interface (GUI) is very similar to a typical modern GUI, with menus, pull-down menus, and toolbars. The toolbars are divided into categories such as “Geometry” and “Dimensions”, and each toolbar has one or more graphical buttons that are often used to set one or more options.

During the early years of AutoCAD, users could import files from other programs, such as an Excel spreadsheet or Visio drawing, and add them to a drawing. Users could view the imported data as text and in graphical formats, such as line and bar charts.

AutoCAD can save files in multiple file formats, including the EPS and DGN (Design Graphics Network) file formats, and can import and export data between file formats, so users can switch easily between file formats. During the 1990s, Microsoft acquired Autodesk and AutoCAD. After the acquisition, Microsoft dropped support for AutoCAD on Windows 8, the Windows Server Operating System, and Windows XP; it still supports AutoCAD on Windows 7 and above.

AutoCAD is available for a variety of platforms, including both Windows and macOS, and supports both 2D and 3D. Mac users can run AutoCAD natively on a Mac computer; Windows users can run AutoCAD natively on a Windows computer; or they can use a Windows emulator such as Parallels or VMware Fusion to run AutoCAD on their Mac. AutoCAD also has a mobile app for iOS and Android, as well as web apps for mobile and desktop web browsers.

Dynare GDB has a web-based user interface that resembles AutoCAD layers, and also comes with a set of tools for creating, managing, and viewing projects. Dynare GDB includes a standard toolset for creating building information models and runtime analysis of building designs.

Focal
Focal is a CAD manager for multi-user, multi-monitor CAD workstations. Focal is a web-based CAD system that can be installed on a customer’s AutoCAD installation, or on an AutoCAD system that is separate from the customer’s AutoCAD installation. The software’s interface has many similarities to the layers found in AutoCAD, and allows companies to manage, view, annotate, and edit their drawings from any web browser.

The Senate voted Thursday to give final approval to controversial new federal regulations regarding health care coverage for small businesses.

But the vote was a major defeat for the president and his party, as the rules opposed by Republicans fell just one vote short of the 60 required for approval.

The regulations, which were the focus of intense lobbying by the Obama administration, would have effectively imposed new requirements on employers with 50 or more employees to offer their workers health benefits.

Republicans have argued that the regulations are burdensome and expensive to businesses and would lead many employers to drop coverage, contributing to a rise in the uninsured population.

The administration has said that most of the rules are not new and would apply to employers with 50 or more workers as of next year.

“Today is a victory for common sense and for the American worker,” Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, said at the start of the vote.

But Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said that wasn’t the case.

“In its rush to impose new rules, the administration has ignored the voices of the American people and has passed a deeply flawed rule,” he said.

While Democrats and the Obama administration are responsible for 54 votes in favor of the measure, 31 senators opposed it, most of them Republicans.

Democrats, however, have touted the vote as a major victory.

“The Senate has done what it was designed to do: Defy the Bush administration,” said Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).
