Heroes of Scene was an American documentary television show on the Bravo cable network that aired from 2005 to 2012. The series profiled actors and non-performers who embodied various archetype types of movie characters, such as police officers, surgeons, and firefighters, as well as those who were best known for one specific role—such as Adam Sandler’s wife, Gaby Hoffmann.

Production
In 2002, the network announced its first docu-series, titled, The Best Day of My Life: Homecoming. Heroes of Scene was written and directed by Jenni Pulos, with budget on her part being $100,000, and the series’ format was modeled after American crime dramas such as NBC’s Law & Order series.

The idea for the series came from the producers of Heroes of Producers, a production they had made. But whereas Heroes of Producers had presented interviews of actors, Heroes of Scene would show long-shot cameras videos of actors’ every day lives, showing how they either went to work or socialized. The producers originally intended to air the show on Discovery ID, before the network had its name change to Bravo. Before the show aired, the network’s executives helped set an initial budget of US$750,000 and asked for a screening. However, when the initial episodes were never aired, the network forced the producers to return US$80,000 to them.

The show was created by the same producers of The Best Day of My Life: Homecoming, with the intent to follow the same concept as that series. The producers retained the same producers and crew from that project. The series was shot in Los Angeles. Its sets included the offices of networks and movie studios, and a police precinct.

Recognition
The show won seven awards in the first three years of its run on the Bravo network, including three Emmys. It was nominated for three individual Emmys in 2005, and for Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Series, for Lead Actor: Lead Actress for Esteban Genoves and Josh Radnor respectively. In 2006, the show was nominated as Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Television (Editing) for PJ Raval. It received two additional nominations in 2008 and 2011.
