Every so often, there are games, titles or products that are so bad that they make a negative impression on the viewer right off the bat. Other times, there are plenty of games that are equally as terrible, and it just takes you a few minutes into the game to realize how bad it really is. But the worst thing about these titles is the way they make you think that you might be missing out on something good, when it’s actually just another terrible game. So just because the title says “THE NEW FANTASY ACTION RPG. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between,” doesn’t mean that you should actually think that it’s going to be something good.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with this game. I’m not sure what they were thinking, but “New Fantasy Action RPG” kind of sounds like they were trying to throw something out there and say, “Hey, it’s like an action game. Or an RPG. Or RPG.” And it ended up being, like, an action game. Is there any other way to put it? It’s an action game. And it’s not an RPG. So if you’re looking to play a new action game with some RPG elements, you might actually want to look elsewhere.
First and foremost, you will be playing as a character that is a nameless figure. At one point, you meet a woman that says she’s the owner of the Elden Ring, but you don’t know who she really is. You won’t even know what happens to your character after this point, and that’s because you’re locked in the mines. But if you do succeed in breaking out of the mines, that means that you will be able to select a new character. In this game, it’s extremely important to consider the fact that you’re playing as a nameless figure, because the more you interact with others, the more the game will become about using your own name. At any given time, you can call the horse by your name, and you can visit the inn and choose a separate name for your character in order to interact with NPCs.
