Update database inside database using Rails 3.0
I have a PostgreSQL database that I have named “site”. From my testing, it appears that the site_id field of that database (also a varchar) gets updated by using the cascade on the has_many method. However, when I go to the rails console and do this:
User.first.site_id = 1
it doesn’t seem to be updating the database. My development environment is only using “site” and not “site_development”, so I’m not sure what could be different that is making this discrepancy. Any thoughts?
My full stack trace is this:

has_many :sites, :foreign_key => “user_id”
in User and
belongs_to :site
in Site?
If not, this is the reason:
If one (or both) of a User’s associations are not mapped to a database column, the framework no longer knows how to find the associated row in the database (it doesn’t have the association key to use). When using SQLite, it is not possible to avoid this, but in other SQL dialects such as PostgreSQL, it is possible to do a “trick” and map the association to the name of the table to find its associated row.

A number of health surveys were administered shortly after the 2019 Canterbury earthquakes in Christchurch, NZ. Samples were obtained from three age groups (adolescents, adults, and parents/carers) and two timeframes (during and after the earthquake). The surveys included exposure, mental health, and need for psychological assistance. The data were matched with health records and community records to provide a complete overview of the impacts of the earthquakes on the wellbeing of participants.
Results:
Results revealed that participants exposed to the quake experienced higher levels of psychological distress. However, a greater proportion of participants who were exposed to the earthquake met criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder compared to those who were not exposed to the earthquake. This was the case regardless of age, time-frame, or exposure to injuries or loss of property. Those who were exposed to the earthquake also reported higher levels of need for psychological assistance, which was also related to greater psychological distress.
Conclusions:
Despite the highly stressful event, the study suggests that the majority of participants were able to cope with the impact of the disaster and that early intervention appeared to be effective at reducing the likelihood of meeting S-DC criteria or experiencing increased severity. However, there was evidence of greater psychological distress in the community of Christchurch, even several years after the earthquakes.
