History
AutoCAD was originally developed by a group of Autodesk employees who wanted to make a CAD program for their own use. To achieve this goal, they began working on a system called “DeskCAD,” which had similar features to CAD programs of the day, but was easier to use. Their efforts were made public in 1980 through a U.S. patent that was granted in 1981. Although the company’s name was originally Autodesk, it was changed to Autodesk Inc. on February 20, 1985, two days after Autodesk CEO Joseph N. Tucci signed a deal with the Surgical Design Company (SDS) to sell DeskCAD under the name “SDS-CAD” (later renamed AutoCAD). With the growing interest in AutoCAD, Autodesk decided to market it to the public.
The first Autodesk software product to be released was 3D Architectural Design, AutoCAD in 1982. At its release, 3D Architectural Design was the first 3D CAD system to be installed on a desktop computer.
Development
AutoCAD was first released in 1982. Before the release, Autodesk worked with SDS to design and implement the system. A beta version was released in August 1981. A key element of AutoCAD was its use of a 3D approach to design, which had been difficult to implement at the time. The beta version only allowed for polygonal models, however, in contrast to the vector-based CAD programs that were developed at the same time.

To determine the most probable structure of M101 phage head, we applied two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-D gel) and obtained a set of well-resolved single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) regions of phage head.
