I use Windows 7 64bit on my laptop. I installed the latest version of Linux in virtualbox using Ubuntu 12.04 32bit. The name of the partition is “Ubuntu 12.04 32bit”. The partition has a UUID of 7699-4187. And the partition is ext4.
If you access it from Windows 7, I believe it should be mounted automatically without the need to install any additional software.
I do not recommend installing any application to Windows partition because Windows should be able to access ext4 partitions directly.
