Translate Toolkit supports the following localisation formats:.properties (Mozilla), OpenOffice.org SDF, TBX, OpenOffice.org GSI, and DTD (including XHTML).
The new Mozilla.properties format (used for Firefox and Thunderbird) allows several properties to be stored in one.properties file (in Firefox 1.5 even multiple languages in one file are possible). This is intended for the new Mozilla localization format.

The TBX format is a style based on a subset of the OpenOffice.org GSI format, used to store information about the style of a spreadsheet cell.
Several other formats are also supported. The format of the.ini and.ini-lite formats is not yet supported.
Usage:
To install Translate Toolkit on your computer, download the Translate Toolkit from
After you have downloaded the Translate Toolkit, unzip it.
Now you are ready to install Translate Toolkit.
If you have Java installed on your computer, start Translate Toolkit from the main menu. Otherwise, click on the icon for Translate Toolkit.
To create a translation template, click on the ‘Create Translation Template’ button.
In order to edit a translation template, click on the ‘Edit Translation Template’ button.
Translate Toolkit works on a folder-by-folder basis.
To use it, start a Translation Project and point it to a folder on your hard drive that contains a PO file. After you have created a translation template for the PO file, you can start translating PO files inside the folder.
To start a Translation Project, click on the ‘Translate Project’ button.
You have three main ways to proceed when you’ve finished your translation. You can either close your Translation Project, or you can check it in and check it out again later, or you can send the translation to the next step, which is validation.
