I have been working on the design of an internet ethics tool for over three years. My lab-prototyped program is a testbed for a computer ethics curriculum being developed at Rutgers University for grades 10-12. This program is being tested out in several high schools and hopes to eventually be developed as an internet-based multi-user classroom program.
The program runs in a window and allows users to add input, analyze the ethical “scores” of their input, and get feedback on their own input. The program is designed so that users can see how others are scoring, how they score, and their own scores.
The program also shows how many connections are currently being used by the program.
The protocol and application was designed to be as simple and minimally invasive as possible.
The goal of the design is to allow for:
-The program to automatically analyze input and respond with the ethical scores
-An automatic web server that can be modified by students and teachers to configure the application
-A web site that can be used by students and teachers to get ethical scores, see scores by other students, and see scores for themselves
-Some internet use

Installation Instructions:
1. Make sure you have LAMP installed and working.
2. Install VNC:
Get the latest version from
Extract to your Desktop
Open a command prompt and cd to the extracted folder
cd Desktop
/realvnc-install.exe

VNC is a network protocol that allows the remote control of another computer across a network, such as the Internet.

Note: In order to use VNC, the target computer must have a graphics card that supports hardware accelerated graphics (VNC works best with OpenGL) and a firewall that allows the required VNC port (5900) to be opened.

Extract and open vnc.conf
The default configuration file for VNC looks like this:
