Q: Your version of God of War has received universal critical acclaim, which is good seeing as how nobody even likes the first release. What have you learned from going back to the original source material?

Tucker Collier: I’d say that in the original context of the story and the themes in the original game, it was the right time for us to do a God of War, but the original game was delivered in what was certainly a different context from what we’re doing now. This iteration has a much deeper and richer context. The original was left behind and the studio had a lot of freedom, whereas for us, we can go back to the original and reevaluate and use that as an inspiration for where we’re going with this particular iteration. In terms of the themes, we want to explore how Kratos deals with the death of his son and the loss of his wife, as well as the cosmic scale of what’s at stake, the sacred lands, and the worlds beyond.
