Massive split by IOC over reform strategy

The IOC today is set to start its new over-arching strategy for Olympic reform after a
dispute between the International Olympic Committee and London 2012 organisers has led to
the postponement of a board meeting due on Monday.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog) and the IOC were
due to work towards a new deal at a board meeting of the world’s leading athletic organisation in
Saint Petersburg.

However, during a board meeting in Copenhagen there was disagreement on the scope of the

In a statement, the IOC said it was “very disappointed” with the absence of Locog at the meeting.

“As agreed with Locog in the last few weeks, the IOC is open to discussing the issue of creating
new means to support and empower both the athletes and the sports federations. We are

possible to resolve the issues.”

Alex Livesey, of UK Sport, welcomed the postponement of the board meeting and said it was
“encouraging” there had been a productive meeting between the two parties in recent weeks.
