Failure analysis is one of the main tasks in the development and operation of current generation cellular mobile communications. For a long time, the characteristics of human perception and the shortcomings of technical means dominated in assessing the quality of cellular communications. This led to the emergence of erroneous ideas about the impact of cell phones on humans, which greatly hampered their development.
One of the reasons for such misconceptions was the subjective assessment of one’s own ability to consume and respond to cellular communications. In the 80s of the XX century, during studies of the perception of cellular service signals, the first reports appeared about the simultaneous satisfaction of two hundred or more calls by a person. Then the number of studies on the effects of cellular networks reached 250, and their validity and reliability increased dramatically.
Currently, the determination of communication quality levels in cellular networks is based on the results of more than 300 studies.
To date, vast experience has been accumulated in the analysis of broadband and narrowband modes. In the present appeal, a number of studies have shown and explained the properties of these modes, recommendations have been received on the use of analysis to assess the quality of signal transmission at various frequencies.
Most of the studies were characterized by the following main features:
In some studies, as a rule, only the quality of reception was studied, in others – the quality of transmission. The results of the studies were extremely large numbers – one and a million.The analysis revealed significant links between cellular networks, cell phones, physical characteristics of receivers and transmitters. Based on these connections, the fundamental nature of the activity of cellular telephone networks as a tool for the distribution and transmission of useful traffic for subscribers was established.
It has sometimes been assumed that the required cellular signal parameters could in principle be determined from a characteristic of the equipment used, such as “cellular bandwidth density”. This was one of the research methods of the voice communication model, which can now be applied to a wider range of studies. There are also works in which it is proved that cellular channels can be determined from echograms or photographs of reception sites, as well as by analyzing the spectrum of telephone signals. Some of these studies believe that more detailed studies are needed to evaluate other parameters of cellular systems.
One of the very significant shortcomings of most studies was the limited use of statistical methods for processing results, in particular, the use of probability theory methods in assessing various signal parameters. Indeed, even when applying the statistical laws used in this study, the statistical model can only be based on assumptions, the application of which is limited. A number of studies did use statistical analysis based on certain assumptions.
