Strange Unicode characters after SSH connection to a Linux machine
I am trying to SSH to a remote Linux server and I am getting strange characters which look like boxes, like this :
The problem is that I can’t copy and paste the characters.
However, if I add them to a text document and then open it via vim, they are displayed correctly.
I’ve already checked if the machine is set correctly to UTF8, and the terminal encoding is UTF8 (mostly on remote server).
Here’s what I’ve tried so far :
Rebooting the server
Clearing /tmp
Restarting the ssh daemon
switching to UTF8 in the terminal
starting with –nocompatibility
Checking the terminal type with echo $TERM (gives xterm)
But none of it worked.
Here’s a dump of the strings which looks like the problem :
