The world is truly an amazing universe and despite its vastness, the developers have managed to fill the area with a ton of detail. For the sake of spoilers, I’d recommend you avoid this game like the plague if you’re not interested in the story. That’s not to say it’s a bad game, far from it, but as an action RPG, it’s not really what I expected from a game about saving a large empire. The real problem with the game is that the storyline is quite confusing. This is especially apparent in the beginning as you just have to spend most of your time reading the game’s extremely verbose dialogue and going from one point to the next without the game actually letting you do anything. And I’m not just talking about the cutscenes. Unlike most other RPG games, this one doesn’t offer you quests to go kill some dumb monsters. Instead you have to collect books in order to progress through the game. Collecting books in the first half of the game is not so hard as you’re able to read them by simply pressing a button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Until the end of the game you get to choose the order the books are read in but I’m pretty sure that was just a bug. It took me a while to realize that they’ve just added a fourth button in order to scroll through the page instead of just selecting what chapter you want to read. While I said that it’s not a problem with the game, it is. While it’s a great idea that you can read as much as you want about the history of Roriath from ancient times, it does make things a bit harder if you don’t want to actually spend the time to read more about it. It also gets worse as you get deeper into the game when even just reading some pages becomes a chore, as your pace slows down to the point where you’d barely even notice it. It’s something that is probably tied to the story but it just feels off to me.

The game looks good, thanks to the fantastic watercolors of the backgrounds.

Everything feels a bit slow even though everything is running at a good framerate.

The interface is functional, but there is a lot of clutter and I’m not a fan of the lack of transparency.

There are a lot of enemies.

There is a lot of backtracking.
