  What’s new in Elden Ring:

  C’mon, you’re simply going to have to face the truth: you hate RPGs. Sure, you love everything else about them, but the first-person-action-RPG-with-point-and-click-interface idea leaves you cold. You can’t help but fear you’re going to go insane when faced with the mind-numbing pleasure of sending item after item to a random server full of way too much shit to get through all at once. It’s going to be hard to beat your own record on the leaderboards and be a success in the game. What did you spend the time and money for? To explain why it’s… not us? I don’t know. But I really want to play some of these things so that’s what I’m doing.

  I’m (and Chris is) obviously not going to answer your important questions like “How far into the game can a person go before they break?” (Yes, there’s a thing where you leave your journey that builds your character.) or “Does the offline part of the game work well?” (Yes, absolutely.) Let’s be clear, this isn’t aimed for those fighting to protect Medieval Europe and there are legit criticisms of that aspect of the game. It isn’t a huge detriment to the game.

  Oh, jeez. Stop making accusations and let me just try to defend myself. I’m not even done with my argument against THAT aspect of the game. Just calm down.

  Sure, this won’t be a genre-changing game that you’ll be playing in a year, but this isn’t the path to the defense of the games you’re mad about. Not when the baby-pink-and-pearl party hat sword that I’m taking to Spain is no longer enough to keep the monsters at bay. Not when there’s a massive maze on the other side of the castle you could be blocking right now.
