1. Set up your camera, lens, and flash.
Tell your camera what settings to use when: the aperture (the size of the hole through which light passes to illuminate your subject), shutter speed (the time the lens stays open to allow light to reach the sensor, which is located in the back of the camera), ISO (for automatic exposure, the camera’s light-meter settings), and so on.
(You can buy these settings with your camera as an accessory.)
Watch out for confusion between aperture and shutter speed. The two settings are one and the same for a camera, but using them in a different context may produce some interesting results. For example, if you set a camera on a tripod to take a still life of the flowers in your garden, you can have the camera set to the aperture you want (which lets in more or less light, depending on the aperture) and the shutter speed as slow as a moment. Now you get a picture of the flowers in motion, almost like a time-lapse. Figure 6-1 shows how the flower arrangement was captured by setting the aperture at a low (large) value and then using a slow shutter speed to capture the flowers as they move.

2. If you shoot in JPEG mode, the camera should select the correct settings for you, but some cameras require you to switch to manual (M) or auto exposure (A) mode to choose those settings.

I am learning about build management in C# using Visual Studio 2008 (It’s the only version of VS I have access to). I have a bunch of other projects that I want to build as part of a solution. I just want to start from the beginning of my solution which is nothing but a project file that has the.sln extension. Normally you have a “solution.sln” file which you can open in VS and build from there. However in my case, I want to build projects from the command line using the Visual Studio 2008 Makefile.
