I also think we really need to emphasize that for many folks with Dysautonomia there are folks who are participating in athletics and perhaps even some in collegiate athletics as a way to fit in and be seen as one of the “cool kids”. So I think that a word of caution about this is that sometimes the top of that pyramid can be more harmful than helpful, so not only does this give that false image, it can be a negative experience as well. So I think those are definitely two things for us to be thinking about, and we’re reaching out to folks who are very on point and they’re telling us things like, “Hey, this is just what it’s about.” That really speaks to a different end of the spectrum where even though we know this isn’t a disease that “gives us away”, we may be presenting in a way that can come across as, again, “look at me, look at me”. So I think it’s really important to be mindful about how we’re presenting and not to be, “Hey look at me.”
So even though we may have been through some rough times, I’m going to try and be mindful about how I’m presenting as well as the community supporting each other to hopefully help us work through those tough times.
