A new leader for the Cedar Rapids Arts Center is expected to bring new ideas to the center.
The board of directors for the Cedar Rapids arts center recently announced that Andrew Grant, the center’s current arts administrator, is stepping down.
Grant has been with the center since 2007 and has played an integral role in overseeing a number of programs.
Grant has brought in new ideas and ways to do things, said board President David Nold. Grant was responsible for the center’s “Dialogs with the Arts” series, which brought national and local artists to the center for art discussions and musical performances. The series also helped increase the number of people in the arts community by offering a way for people to learn about new forms of art.
“He worked very hard on the Dialogs,” Nold said.
Nold said Grant also assisted in creating the Multicultural Center, which was named after former board member Julia Svarbek.
There were plans in place to redo the center, which has had issues with in-fighting over the years, but Nold said he doesn’t want to “waste” the legacy of Grant’s work.
Grant was asked to step down and accepted the offer after the center underwent a re-organization of the organization in October.
“He’s led the way for us in the interim, so we’re very grateful that he’s going to be able to help us with the next phase,” Nold said.
